Therapy for Trauma

in Austin, TX

Everyone desires and deserves to be truly heard.

You know you need help to heal from past trauma in order to live your life.

You’ve seen darkness, and it can be hard to talk about your experience. You feel powerless, helpless, stuck. Why does it keep coming up over and over again?

You may be afraid to overwhelm people with your pain...but it persists. No matter how hard you try to move past it and hide it from the world. Your past trauma keeps you from living your life to the fullest.

Trauma shows up in unexpected ways. It can affect every aspect of your life. This is especially true for adults living with childhood trauma. You may be wondering if you’re still affected by past trauma. Or if your day-to-day struggles are due to your traumatic experience.

What are symptoms of childhood trauma in adulthood?

  • Inhibited sleep

  • Social anxiety

  • Co-dependency

  • Difficulty finding or keeping a romantic partner

  • Hypervigilance in an effort to keep yourself safe

  • Difficulty connecting with people or keeping a job

  • People-pleasing in an attempt to be accepted and loved

All of these are understandable trauma responses. They have served their purpose and it’s time to let them go.

I can help.

I’m Melissa Haney, a licensed clinical social worker specializing in trauma therapy. With 13 years of experience and knowledge in a number of methodologies and strategies, I’ll work to make a specialized therapy experience specifically for you.

How Does Trauma Therapy Work?

I approach Trauma Therapy with your individual needs in mind. I use a variety of methods that allow you to work through your trauma without talking through the whole experience.

The primary methods I use are:

Somatic Experiencing - A technique used to heal trauma stored in the body by focusing on the mind-body connection.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) - A technique that merges multiple evidence-based methods together to reprogram memories associated with your trauma. The goal is for certain people, places, or memories to no longer trigger a traumatic response.

Trauma doesn’t work alone, though. Many of my clients also have a history of:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Grief

  • PTSD

That’s why I take an open-ended approach to therapy. The methods listed above are simply a guide.

I understand that every client has different needs. That there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to trauma counseling. That’s why I’ve spent my career building up a toolbox of methods. I weave them into sessions as I go.

I truly believe you are unique, and that your therapy experience should be too.

If my approach resonates with you, please reach out to set up a complimentary 15-minute call to see if we’re a good fit.

I would love to work with you to create a tailored therapy experience for your trauma healing journey.
